Linkin Park
Chester Charles Bennington a.k.a "Chazy Chaz" (born March 20, 1976) is the vocalist of the band Linkin Park. He is also the oldest member.
He was born in Phoenix, Arizona. He is notable for producing loud and very high-pitched vocals. Most Linkin Park songs feature him screaming, using a technique called Creaky Voice, other wise called Vocal Fry. His hair changes style and color frequently. When he was younger he practiced singing every day until his lungs and throat were sore to get the voice that he has now.
Chester had a rather unpleasant life right through adolescence. He was sexually abused as a child, not by his family, but from the people around him. A few of his friends commited suicide, "I also lost a friend in a tragic freak skateboarding accident. He was skateboarding down this little hill, hit a pebble and hit his head just right, and it was over. It can happen to you a million times when you're a kid, you fall down and hit your head-he just happened to hit the wrong spot." When Chester was 11, his parents went through a divorce. He has two half sisters and a half brother. Chester attended Centennial High School at the beginning of his freshman year. But later he went to Greenway High. As a teenager, he was addicted to crystal meth and cocaine. However, Bennington is now free from his addiction and has been so for many years though he is still a smoker. His co-writer and fellow band member Mike Shinoda wrote a song, which until recently could not be performed live. The song, called "Breaking the Habit," brought back memories from the past which in many cases reduced Bennington to tears.
Bennington was formerly the lead vocalist in a band called Grey Daze in 1994, who were popular across Arizona and the United States, but didn't achieve global status. Chester thought he was not getting enough credit for his vocals and lyrics, so he left the band. Since Chester left, they have replaced him with a new female singer, Jodi Wendt, and the band is now known as Waterface.
He graduated in the year of 1994 from Washington High. He met his wife, Samantha, while he was working in Burger King. He married her on October 31, 1996, at the age of 20, and because he was too poor to afford an actual wedding or engagement ring, the two of them have rings tattooed on their ring fingers. They have one child, a boy named Draven Sebastian Bennington, born April 19, 2002 at 1 PM as mentioned on linkinpark.com : "Chester and Samantha had their son on April 19th, 2002 at 1PM. He's happy, healthy, and cute as can be. The baby and parents are doing great. They thank you for being so interested and they love you guys! The whole family will be on the road during the next Linkin tour!". Draven was supposedly named after a character in the movie "The Crow". As of May 2, 2005 the couple are divorcing after eight years of marriage. Samantha has been granted full custodial rights of their child, while Chester is fighting for joint custody. He has a girlfriend Talinda Bentley, a former Playboy model. Like bandmate Mike Shinoda, Chester is working on a solo album. It will be completed by late 2005 and set for release in early 2006.
In 2006, Chester is set to release a solo album, produced by Amir Derakh and Ryan Shuck of Orgy. There are currently two confirmed tracks: 'The Morning After' and 'Walking In Circles'. 'Let Down' is also rumoured to appear on the album. Chester will sing, play guitar, play keyboard and does the progamming on the record. Influences for the album include The Cure, Depeche Mode, and Bauhaus, and Chester has described it as "fuckin' driving beats and walls of guitars." One of his friends also likened one track to T-Rex.

CHESTER BENNINGTON OF LINKIN PARK ON FORMING '08 PROJEKT REV

"When you put together a list of 150 bands or whatever, finding the ones who are into the idea, finding the ones who will take the right amount of money, finding the ones that are ok with their position on the bill, finding the ones that are available that haven't already made commitments or not in the studio, that's the most time consuming part and that's really difficult."
"There are certain aspects at work that are easy and there are other aspects that aren't. I think when it came to Chris it was very easy. We had toured with Chris in the fall of last year and we talked at the end of that and said 'We should do this again, it was too short.' My response was 'As soon as we find what that is we'll do it.' And this was it. So that was very simple. When it came to Atreyu, it was very simple. We asked and they said 'Yes!' It was like 'OK!'
"And then with the addition of Busta it feels like now we truly have accomplished what Projekt Rev was started out to be. We want to bring all these types of genres together and we love Hip Hop and that was the one element that was missing from this year's Projekt Rev. I think that Busta will not only fill that spot with grace and do a really good job performing live. I think that everyone will be engaged because he's such a great personality and his music is so unique and so good."
[Chris Cornell looks to once-in-a-lifetime collaboration on PR
Don't be surprised if you see Chris Cornell jump on stage with Chester and Linkin Park or any other band on Projekt Revolution.
We caught up with Chris Cornell to get his thoughts on discussing some songs to sing with Chester Bennington and if he's looking forward to sitting in with Linkin Park this Summer while on the road. "Absolutely, either surprise or on purpose. Yeah, Chester and I discussed picking some songs and actually going up. Yeah, I'd be into that anytime anybody wants to do something with me or vice versa performing. I think that's what makes these types of tours work better. That's when you really take advantage of it is when you got a lot of bands together breaking the ice and nothing breaks the ice better than when you're onstage together in front of 20,000 people. It doesn't get any more intense than that. Once you've gone through that with someone you pretty much gonna be pals."

LP in Lithuania: Interview with Chester and Phoenix
e-X-treme has translated an interview with Chester and Phoenix from Lithuanian newspaper, Lrytas. Thanks e-X-treme, and also thanks to Arminas for sending me the same article.

Q: Your fans waited for your performance next to the stage for half a day. What do you think about that?
Chester: It seems normal to me, when teens are acting like that. When I was their age I did the same. But it's a little bit worrying when grown men acts the same.
Phoenix: For me - its nothing. I'm just a bassist, no one knows me. They're waiting six hours to get to the arena, and I waited all day, untill I'll have opportunity to give interview with Chester - he's our star! (laughs)
Q: You came to Lithuania for a very short time. What do you know about our country?
Phoenix: Not much. On the way to arena we saw that Vilnius - beautiful, green city. I guess that's all.
Chester: I know more. Lithuania - basketball's gold mine. No one knows why, but you have very good players. Don't tell anyone, but I think your country will win the olympics!
Phoenix: Really? They're gonna beat us?
Chester: That's how it's gonna be! Lithuanians will take our best players, like Ilgauskas, and they will kick our ass! I say "our" cause we really love them.
Q: For your fans you all are like half-gods. On the internet they say that they would give anything away, for five minutes with you. Aren't you amused by this kind of talks?
Phoenix: No. I feel the same. Every day I ask Chester to sign my ass!
Chester: Seriously, sometimes it scares me. I don't like it when fans imagine us completely different from the reallity. Then we meet them, we try to show how simple we are, I think it helps, their hands stop shaking.
Q: You came to eastern Europe six years ago, then most of the best groups tried to avoid coming here. Why?
Phoenix: I'm afraid it's not our desert. Just like the fact that we are in Lithuania today. If someone invites us, and pays our fee - we come. It's simple.
Chester: But we never grimace, we never think that one country is better then other. For example we're one of a few best known groups who played in Malaysia. In the very beginning of our career one well-known musician told me - if they invite you to play, you have to play, cause next time maybe they won't invite you anymore.
Q: Do you check your bank accounts after tours? Do money matters to you?
Chester: We make enough, so we don't have to worry about anything. It's good to know that your family won't have any financial problems. But we came to the music world not because of money. People who do it for money is doomed for failure.
Q: You sold over 50 million albums, what more can you dream about?
Phoenix: After our first album Hybrid Theory, which was incredibly popular, we were afraid, that that's may be the end. How could we make something successful like that again?
Chester: But our second album "Meteora" was very popular too. Third one, "Minutes To Midnight" is a completely different story - we changed our style. Now it doesn't matter how many albums we will sell - the most important thing is that Linkin Park would create something new, improve all the time. Our purpose is that our group would exist many many years. I feel that's just how it's gonna be!
Честер: смотрите,смотрите! какие у меня тапочки, а рубашечка!
Ему только платица не хватат!
Chester: "I am not Velvet Revolver's new singer"
Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has dismissed rumours that he is set to replace Scott Weiland as the new frontman of Velvet Revolver.
In an exclusive interview for next week's Kerrang! magazine Bennington said:
"I'm friends with all the guys in Velvet Revolver and have played with all of them before. I'm friends with Scott [Weiland] too. I think the rumour that I was going to join Velvet Revolver started because Slash asked me if I'd come play a show with them in Vegas right around the time that Scott left the band. Timing-wise, it didn't work out for me, though. Maybe people assumed that invitation meant I was joining the band."
"It would be very uncomfortable for me to join that band because I'm friends with all of them, including Scott," Bennington continues. "If I was even going to do just one show, or record just one song with them, I'd have to know it was okay with my band, all those guys and Scott too.
That said, if Bennington didn't have prior commitments or wasn't friends with all parties, he'd jump at the chance:
"If I wasn't in Linkin Park anymore and I didn't know Scott, though, I'd say yes," he says. "Who wouldn't? The music is great and it would be a really cool opportunity."

Velvet Revolver To Part Ways With Singer
04.01.08 - 1 аперля 2008
Velvet Revolver founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland. "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either, said Slash. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic on-stage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

Responding to our drummer’s rant about why the band is in a state of flux
Well first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don’t attempt to stand in a man’s shoes when you haven’t walked his path. Secondly, “keeping rock-n-roll alive”? I’ve made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of VR, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though – this is your FIRST band, as opposed to being a hired gun. I’ve been making records (now on my ninth), which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I’ve ingested into my system. I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run and that was the “make up” Australia tour. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve… Volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won’t say why… we’ll just let Blabbermouth find out for themselves.
As for our fans - I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear Velvet Revolver playing… not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound. God forbid - could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It’s a shame… we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of any one. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows.
On a separate note, we did an S.T.P. photo shoot before this tour and it was fun, inspiring and it gave me that thrill – that feeling that got my rocks off from the get-go.
- Scott Weiland
"If I wasn't in Linkin Park anymore and I didn't know Scott, though, I'd say yes," he says. "Who wouldn't? The music is great and it would be a really cool opportunity."
