Happy Earth Day!

Tuesday, April 22, 2008

Hello everyone! Happy Earth Day!

When I was very young, I remember the first snowfall sometimes being before my birthday in November.  We always had a white Christmas and often had a white Thanksgiving.  Over the years, the snowfall came later and later, and now my little mountain hometown sometimes does not have first snow until January, with larger amounts more around Easter than Christmas.  It has been difficult for my mountain community because it thrives on people visiting to play in the snow and ski and snowboard at the small resort, and the season has been continually shortened by warm and dry weather.  I have also noticed a larger amount of trees declining in health in dry years, changing the landscape of my town little by little each year.  Obviously, seeing this change in a place very dear to my heart, I believe in protecting and respecting nature.

There are so many little things that have always been a part of my life that were environmentally friendly. Growing up, we always used old towels and holey sheets for cleaning instead of paper towels, we kept the lights out when we weren’t in the room, we hung our clothes out on the line to dry during good weather, we had a compost pile in the backyard for our kitchen fruit and veggie scraps that made great fertilizer for our home grown tomato plants and recycling our cans and glass bottles gave me a little bit of spending money.

What I am really excited about now is how technology is enabling us to conserve more while not having to sacrifice.  In the Shinoda household we still do all the things I did growing up, and yes, that does include having a compost pile and using rags instead of paper towels.  But we also have an incredibly efficient hot water heater, hybrid car, energy star washer, dryer, and dishwasher.  And, this morning our dinosaur of a refrigerator decided to die completely on us, so we will be replacing that with a very energy efficient model.  We are looking into solar panels, and by next Earth Day I will be able to say that we are powering our house with the sun!  With so much buzz around global warming and conservation, I can’t wait to see what will be invented in the years to come.

Anna Shinoda Biography
Raised in a town so small it lacked a stop light, there was little for Anna Shinoda to do except climb trees, go on hikes and read books.

Reading books led to writing books and by the fourth grade, Anna had her first book bound through the Young Authors program.

In middle school and high school, she concentrated her writing skills on reporting the news to her schoolmates as the editor for her high school paper.

Upon graduation, she was awarded several scholarships on the merit of her writing and pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies at Long Beach State.

Anna worked in music Public Relations for several years after college and eventually discovered a love of writing for children. Determined to continually develop her writing skills, Anna has taken many classes through UCLA Extension and as a member of SCBWI has attended several Conferences. Her completed manuscripts for editorial consideration include a chapter book nominated for the 2004 Sue Alexander Most Promising New Work Award. Anna writes to promote healing in children, whether it is taming a fear of the dark, confronting a fear of the unknown, discovering how to make new friends, or facing a difficult truth.

Anna married musician Mike Shinoda in 2003, and although they do not have any children, she has no shortage of kids to be inspired by, thanks to her ten nieces and nephews ages 2 to 26.

Adventures in Japan, Brazil, Australia, Europe, and throughout the United States inspire her stories, as do her pet dogs and animals in her backyard.

Mixing her experiences as an adult with her memories of her own childhood, Anna Shinoda has many stories to tell. (from maiden name: Anna Marie Hillinger birthday: November 1977 wedding : 10th May 2003 family: parents Zita Marie (67) and William (72) brother George (32) High school: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication Studies at Long Beach State job: writer, she writes book for children interest: Mike wrote for her song Whereґd you go, Anna met Mike at party, She goes with Mike on tour, sometimes goes on LPU chat , she has piercing in nose and in ear, organize charity (from linkingirls) 09/07/06 : Welcome! By Anna Shinoda Welcome to my website! Please take a look around, and keep checking back in.

I have big plans for developing this website, but for now, my focus is on my writing.

I currently have two completed manuscripts for editorial consideration, and I am working on a young adult novel. A lot of people ask me how I started to write for children and teens.

After realizing public relations was not my passion, I began to take a plethora of classes to discover what I really wanted to do in life.

Art, landscaping, interior design, fashion - I knew I wanted to do something creative.

My next stop was taking writing classes.

There was a familiar spark.

This was something that I have always loved to do, but bills and the need for a reliable career made me forget. I soon realized all of my main characters had one thing in common: they were all under 18 years old.

Intrigued by the challenge of writing for children and teens, I took several classes that taught the art and psychology of composing for different ages. More importantly, is why I write for children and teens: there are a lot of people in the world that have been hurt, afraid and lonely.

When we started the band (Linkin Park), it was because we were waiting for a sound that never happened. We got tired of waiting, and we decided to just do it ourselves.
Most of us met a long time ago. Brad and I met in junior high and we met Rob in high school, we met Joe in college.
My bandmates in LP were very excited for me to be able to show the fans what I do individually. I wouldn't have done this without their complete support. In fact, I picked our guitarist Brad Delson as my A&R guy!
I do my best to try and just do interviews via email because I've had so many experiences where people have kind of minced my words. I just want an accountability on the other person's end for taking down what I'm saying accurately. I'm careful with my words and to kind of assume that I meant something similar to what I said isn't really fair.

My first crush?! (chuckles) Well that was when I was in High School, she was so pretty her name was Catiana Christopher. she was really awsome I loved her so much. I doubt Brad remembers her. But anyway... we were still going out when high school finished and I told her we'd see each other every single day and that we'd be together forever. Oh my god I'm about to cry (laughs). But then that day, right after I told her that and went home we never saw each other again. So yeah still to this very day I miss her I'll always think of her and I-I-I'll always have love for her. I hope that i see her agian some day.**A Fan Question (Variety Interview, 10/26/2007)

Items May Shift in Overhead Compartments
Saturday, July 12, 2008

Sorry for the long pause between my last post and now. On a flight recently, I went to get something out of my bag and my laptop literally flew out of the overhead compartment. The case it was in was no match for the not-so-soft-airplane floor and the six foot drop. My computer is still in the shop, but I have transferred all my hard drive info onto a temporary computer for the moment. I’m back to writing on a computer, instead of in my notebook, which was slightly romantic and fun for a minute until I realized how inconvenient it is to re-type everything I’ve written.

By the way, this in not my first apple item to be destroyed in an airplane. Last year, I was in my chair with the seat reclined listening to my Ipod, when I decided to get up to go to the restroom. I put the seat back into its normal position. Going to put my Ipod on pause, I followed my headphone cord. As I realized the cord went deep into the seat, I turned to my friend and said, “there is a good possibility that I just ruined my Ipod. I’m going to take a few moments to let myself accept that it may be completely crunched before trying to fish it out of the chair.” Sure enough, it was smashed -especially the screen. Amazingly, it was still playing music.

More exciting is my blog on Mike’s art opening last night at the JANM. I hope to have that up in the next couple of days, so please check back soon.

Ну чтож, ждёмс отчета Аннушки о выставке Майка ^^

WHERE'D YOU GO?" (about Anna) -Fort Minor
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.

She said "Some days I feel like s***,
Some days I wanna quit, and just be normal for a bit,"
I don't understand why you have to always be gone,
I get along but the trips always feel so long,
And, I find myself tryna stay by the phone,
'Cause your voice always helps me when I feel so alone,
But I feel like an idiot, workin' my day around the call,
But when I pick up I don't have much to say,
So, I want you to know it's a little f***** up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin',
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career,
Me and the rest of the family here singing "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home...

You know the place where you used to live,
Used to barbeque up burgers and ribs,
Used to have a little party every Halloween with candy by the pile,
But now, you only stop by every once in a while,
S***, I find myself just fillin' my time,
Anything to keep the thought of you from my mind,
I'm doin' fine, I plan to keep it that way,
You can call me if you find you have somethin' to say,
And I'll tell you, I want you to know it's a little f***** up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin',
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career,
Me and the rest of the family here singing "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home...

I want you to know it's a little f***** up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', no longer debatin',
Tired of sittin' and hatin' and makin' these excuses,
For while you're not around, and feeling so useless,
It seems one thing has been true all along,
You don't really know what you got 'til it's gone,
I guess I've had it with you and your career,
When you come back I won't be here and you'll can sing it...

Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home...
Please come back home...
Please come back home...
Please come back home...
Please come back home...

Quote about Anna
Another song that shifts traditional perspectives is "Where'd You Go?," a lament for those on the road as felt through the experience of those left behind. Shinoda warns, "'Where'd You Go' makes my wife cry every time she hears it."

"I was bowling with my wife and i see Tak (Styles of Beyond)".
(Mike Shinoda)
-Herald Sun, 2004.

From a Holly Brook interview.
Have you done a lot of touring? Do you have people at home that miss you?

Shinoda: As you know, the song "Where'd You Go," I wrote it for my wife,
Anna, who you know. A lot of people do songs about being on the road, and I wanted to do this song about the opposite perspective: the people who are
at home, your family, your friends, your loved ones who are at home.

Monica Peters and Mike Shinoda: REAL TALK
MP: Is it hard being married and trying to maintain a music career?

MS: Yeah. I actually wrote a song called “Where’d You Go” to show my wife that I know what it’s like when I’m gone. The song actually starts there, then the story trails off into other directions. I have had other people say it’s descriptive about their parent who was always gone, too. At any rate, the hardest part about doing what I do is how much time it can take up.

MP: Do you have any children? How many kids do you want to have?

MS: I don’t have kids.

MP: Choose one Ben and Jerry's or Hagen Daas?

MS: I like ice cream a lot—my wife calls me an ice-cream snob. I would go mochi ice cream. Green tea.

MP: Last question but not least-- How are you today? What did you do today?

MS: I’m fine. I had a two-hour conference call with my team about the Fort Minor record, Linkin Park stuff, our label, and our marketing company. I have some interviews set up via email. I just went to lunch with my wife-A small sandwich shop around the corner. I’ll probably be handling Fort Minor business for the rest of the day.
