Linkin Park booked Indigo Ranch Studios

Stefan reports that RUMOUR has it that Linkin Park has booked the Indigo Ranch Studios in Malibu, CA to record their new album probably sometime in March 2009.

VMA early winners

Two down one to go. As we know Linkin Park have been nominated for 3 Video Music Awards, Best Director, Best Special Effects and Best Rock Video, well, they've lost the first two when results were announced today. The Best Director award goes to Erykah Badu for "Honey" and Kanye West's "Good Life" won the Best Special Effects award. Watch MTV on Sunday to find out if Linkin Park's "Shadow Of The Day" will win the Best Rock Video award, they are up against Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters, Paramore and Slipknot. The show will start at 9 pm ET, red carpet pre-show starts at 8 pm ET.

International stars set to rock, and groove, Shanghai

A bunch of hard rockers, an edgy pop-rock chick and a classy jazz crooner are set to return to the city next month to play sell-out concerts. American group Linkin Park is one of the most popular Western rock bands in China, Canadian Avril Lavigne wowed audiences in Shanghai last year while jazz diva Diana Krall has a big fan base here.

"We liked our experience in China last year a lot," says Linkin Park MC and vocalist Mike Shinoda. "The Shanghai concert was one of the best concerts and one we were really proud of."

The band will rock the stage at Shanghai Stadium on October 12, joined by Taiwan's most popular rock band, May Day, for a three-hour non-stop concert. Each band will perform a 90-minute set.

"We like to choose a band with a distinctive style," Shinoda says when asked about the upcoming collaboration. "We are sure it will be interesting. We were told the majority of May Day's fans are girls while most of our fans in China are guys. So we'd like to see couples coming to our concert."

The concert is also part of Linkin Park's first-ever Music For Relief tour. The band established MFR in 2005 to help aid victims of world catastrophes and combat global warming.

Since its inception, the foundation has raised more than US$3 million for the victims of the tsunami tragedy in Southeast Asia, Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the Southern California bushfires, among others and planted more than 809,000 trees to help reduce global warming.

A portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold in China will be donated to the charity and the World Bank will match the total funds raised.

All monies will be donated to China Development Market, an initiative by the World Bank which will distribute the funds to help tackle the consequences of the devastating earthquake in Sichuan Province on May 12.

"We feel extremely excited and proud being able to come back with our Music For Relief concerts," says Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington. "We hope our efforts can raise more public awareness about the reconstruction work ahead in Sichuan and really provide assistance to the victims."

One of the past decade's most popular international rock bands, Linkin Park features Bennington (vocals), Shinoda (vocals), Rob Bourdon (drums), Brad Delson (guitar), Joe Hahn (DJ) and Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass).

The group has won two Grammy Awards, for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2002 with their hit single "Crawling" and for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration with Jay-Z in 2006 for the innovative "Numb/Encore."

They have sold more than 50 million records worldwide since their debut in 2000. Their debut album "Hybrid Theory" alone sold more than 18 million copies.

Recognized for their adaptation of the "nu" metal and rap rock genre into a radio-friendly style in "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora," Linkin Park explored a variety of other genres in their latest studio album, "Minutes to Midnight."

"It's of crucial importance for the band to always find new inspirations before starting work on a new album," Shinoda says.

"This is really unique for us as we've been together as a band for 10 years and sort of recognizable in the market. However, we always want new ideas and concepts, it's in our blood."

Linkin Park Cancels October 6th Show In Vegas

Los Angeles, CA (October 6, 2008) - Linkin Park has been forced to cancel tonight's concert at the The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, as lead vocalist Chester Bennington has sustained a back injury and is under doctor's orders to rest. Linkin Park sincerely regrets this unavoidable cancellation and apologizes to fans for any disappointment caused.

So by now - you know that the rest of the LP tour is cancelled. What an anti-climactic way to end a tour. All of us are really bummed, especially since Chester was injured. In case you don't know. Chester (lead singer of Linkin Park) hurt his back while playing with his kid. Apparently he slipped two of his discs in his back. I imagine that this is excruciatingly painful. I feel for him.

I flew to Vegas with Shellie and then they cancelled the vegas show. Shellie and I decided to stay in Vegas and enjoy a few days there. Awesome meals - We went to our two favorite restaurants in Vegas. Nob Hill, at the MGM, and Restaurant Guy Savoy at Caesars. More on this later.

As I've stated before, no workie, no money, so I was especially freaked out. This tour was going to go until the end of October so it was about a month worth of work, and even when it was all set to go we were stretching ourselves a little thin for the rest of the year. So there we were in Vegas realizing that it is possible that I will not have any more work for the rest of the year, and we just lost a month worth of income. YIKES. It made for a few nervous days.

Long story short - Linkin Park really stepped up as a band and paid their entire crew for the entire time that we would have been in Vegas and China. I can't say that all bands would have been as respectful and appreciative as LP. It was really a great thing that they did. It builds loyalty, and is a true thank you to all of us for working our tales off for the last two years. Truly a class act. Not only because of this, but for many other reasons, I will try VERY hard to clear my schedule and work with these guys again on the next tour.

So things are pretty good here. The only part that we as a crew are bummed about is that there was no sense of closure. It just ended abruptly with no last show or whatever. When you are on a tour for so long - you live in close quarters with other guys for two years. There is some separation anxiety there, and especially when there is no real end to it all. Oh well - I am sure I will see most of these guys on the next gig - whatever that may be.

OK - here is the part where I apologize to all LP fans about not being able to tell you about the Milton Keynes DVD project. YES - it looks like that there will be a release of the Milton Keyns show. My hands were truly tied in this matter. Management swore me to secrecy. Dylan and I were working on all that stuff along with some Jay Z and NERD when we were in the studio a few weeks ago. I think that the release is slated for November, but don't hold your breath. There is always delays and shit in this stuff.

In fact management did not want me to tell anyone about the project even now - but when I was searching for any press release about Chester's injury I went to his website and discovered a contest to name the DVD project. What the fuck? Management is telling me I can't tell anyone about the project until they release it, but ON THE LP WEBSITE they have a contest to name the project. Sometimes they drive me so friggin crazy.

Anyway - I am here to tell you that Dylan and I have remixed the audio for that project as a 5.1 DVD release. We are super proud of it, and were honored that LP chose us to be the mixers for the project. Looking forward to the final release.

Shellie and I have spent the last days eating at our favorite restaurants. This is why we go to vegas. I will give you a full description in my next post - but that is enough for today. Gotta go make dinner.

For the first time ever, nominations for the annual GRAMMY Awards will be announced live on prime-time television, it was announced today by The Recording Academy. "The GRAMMY Nominations Concert Live!! — Countdown To Music's Biggest Night" is a new entertainment special that will announce nominations in at least six categories, feature performances by past GRAMMY winners, and will set the stage for the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards on Feb. 8, 2009.

The one-hour special will be broadcast live from Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on Dec. 3 from 9–10 p.m. ET/PT on the CBS Television Network, and will also celebrate the grand opening of the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live. Additionally, tickets to the live event will be available for sale to the public and proceeds will benefit the GRAMMY Museum. Presenters and performers will be announced shortly.
