July 27, 2008

busta rhymes has unfortunately had to leave projekt revolution. we were all extremely disappointed to see him go; we enjoyed the energy and personality he brought to the tour, and we looked forward to playing "we made it" on stage with him each night. his departure was due to a number of complicated business matters that were out of anyone's control. we hope to cross paths with busta again soon!

Linkin Park 'putting In A Lot Of Work' For Next Album

By: Don Kaye

Linkin Park plans to cut down the space between new studio releases this time around, hoping not to repeat the four-year gap between 2003's Meteora and 2007's Minutes to Midnight. Singer Mike Shinoda told us that the band members have been working on new material for a while and that he's even found time to record some demos while on tour: "Actually I've been doing a couple of studio dates out on the road, which is new for me. I did a date when we were touring in Germany, one date in Prague, a bunch of dates in New York, and I'm excited about that. It's been very cool for us. So long story short, we've been putting in a lot of work and hopefully we could have a new record out next year."

Linkin Park is in the midst of its Projekt Revolution tour, which stops in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday (July 30th) and wraps on August 24th in Woodlands, Texas.

Shinoda and bassist David "Phoenix" Farrell were on hand last Thursday (July 24th) in New York City's Times Square to accept a $25,000 donation from Major League Baseball and Champs Sports to the band's Music For Relief organization.

Major League Baseball's Authentic Collection is sponsoring the Projekt Revolution tour for the third time this summer, while this year's edition of the tour marks Champs Sports' involvement for the second time.

Mike Shinoda also recently opened his second exhibition of paintings at an art gallery in Los Angeles.

Overseas again or a new album?
By: Hahninator on Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:06 am

Our great friend Jasparina over at LPTimes reports: "According to China Post, Linkin Park has invited Taiwanese rock band, Mayday to perform with them at the benefit concert in Shanghai and Beijing on October 12 and 18 respectively. As previously reported, they will each play for 90 min. China Post added that Mayday's record company Bin-Music confirmed that they had received the invitation from concert organizers in mid May, they are now just waiting for China to approve the paper work. The benefit concert is to aid the survivors in the southwest Chinese province Sichuan which was hit by an earthquake in May."

There are also BIG rumors floating around, that have been floating around for a while actually. Linkin Park is set to play in South America SOMETIME this fall. We've heard September, we've heard October, we've heard November. When will it be? Will they go? The big Brazilian concert promoter reportedly traveled to London and Paris earlier this year on Linkin Park's Winter European Tour to meet with the band to discuss the shows in South America. They are rumored to play a few shows in Brazil, and also shows in Chile and Argentina. Reportedly, Warner Brazil has been working on it. We'll see what happens.

However, on the LPTV Winter 08 Episode, Phoenix said "If you guys want to come see us before we go make a new album, here's your last chance - Projekt Revolution 2008". Mike said in Mansfield that Projekt Revolution was the last tour before the new album, and this article here, released today, hints that the band will be hitting the studio again soon to make a new album.

cornercompacts has posted a message at LPU board about the China benefit concert and Dead By Sunrise. For non LPU members here's his post at LPLG forum.

i talked to chester & phoenix @ m&g in hartford and they said projekt revolution 2008 will be their last tour...with the exception of the shows in china before they take time off to make their next album. also i asked chester about dead by sunrise and he said that he estimates it will be released in early 09', said he was not positive because he doesn't know what the guys at the record label will do/say that could possibly delay the release. i'll post more when i get a chance in a rush right now hope it helps laterrrr.

Vote For Pooch!
By: Hahninator on Wed Jul 30, 2008 2:54 pm

In the Linkin Park community, everyone has a job. For instance, I try and run LPLive to the best of my ability. Mike Shinoda tries to run the live show to the best of his ability. Most people have the job of being the fans, being the support for the band. Most everyone does a "good" job at what they do. Or at least, I think they do.

But then there's the ones that do an EXCELLENT job at what they do.

A man by the name of Ken "Pooch" Van Druten mixes the FOH (Front Of House) sound for Linkin Park. Whenever you go to a show and you think the band "sounds" good - thank him. He's the one behind mixing the show perfectly for everyones' ears at the show, and also the one behind the amazing live audio shows that you see keep appearing online. He and his friend Dylan do a damn good job at what they do in my opinion. They don't nearly get the credit they deserve.

As a community, we aim to and try to help everyone out by doing what we can. Right now I'd like to take the time to try and help my friend Pooch out. It's now the time of year for the "Parnelli Awards". These awards go to the best of the best in the live show business. Pooch had this to say: "Once again it is that time of the year. I have been nominated for the Parnelli FOH Engineer of the year for 6 years, and have NEVER won. WTF? Oh well - this is my one last push to see if I can win the fucker." Let's try and help him out. He adds, "If you know anybody else like Kevin "Tater" McCarthy you might want to put him in the monitor mixer of the year category for Linkin Park. Or perhaps Robert Long in the Production Manager of the year category for Rage Against the Machine. The nominations are open to anyone, but the actual voting is done by people within the industry. Thanks for helping to get us nominated."

To vote for Pooch, Kevin, Robert, and whomever else you'd like, go to the Parnelli Awards site right HERE. Let's get an award for someone who deserves it. Thanks guys.

- Encore breaks were after 'In The End' and 'Faint'.
- Joe messed up the intro to 'Crawling', doing the exact same thing he did as Mountain View 2004.
-Something happened to Mike's guitar during 'From The Inside' on the first verse. He rushed off to the left side of the stage and reappeared before the first chorus with a different guitar that was red instead of his blue one.
- The last sample in 'Points Of Authority' was skipped for some reason, and it seems to have confused Rob, who seemed to start the ending drum beats. They recovered in time, and nothing major became of it.
- After 'In The End', Chester gave basically the same speech about Mike that he gave at Mountain View 2007 about how talented he is, etc.

Other Notes:
- Chester joined Chris Cornell for 'Hunger Strike'.

LINKIN PARK LOOKS EAST AND TO NEW ALBUM

From artisannews.com:

Linkin Park is currently out on the road in support of Minutes To Midnight headlining their own Projekt Revolution tour. The band is touring with Chris Cornell, Atreyu, The Bravery and others, but they have their sights set to the east.

Linkin Park bassist Phoenix said their plans after Projekt Revolution include a trip out east and a trip to the studio.

"Yeah, we finish Projekt Revolution at the end of August, and then in October we have two weeks that we're doing in China. Aside from that I think the plan really is to continue writing. We started writing in March, April, May, those three months those three months and got a good start on new material. And we're going to continue that and hopefully have a new project out by 2009. So, yeah, get back in the studio and keep writing."

Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Mike Shinoda joined Phoenix to talk about when fans can expect the new effort to be done.

[Shinoda] "Yeah, it won't take as long as the last record, I don't think..." [Phoenix] "We're like saying that now, but then we're just going to screw ourselves again," [Shinoda] "Two years from now we'll be, like, 'Uh, Sorry.'" [Phoenix] "If you've been following the band for a while you know not to listen to anything we say as far as when something will come out. We're never a good judge of how long something may take us to do. With that said, we did a good job pacing ourselves on this touring cycle. We're not burnt out. We're still excited about writing music. We're excited about being creative and looking forward to getting back in the studio and working. So that at least all points in the direction of things being able to happen earlier rather than later."

Machine Head on Linkin Park, interview with Metal Hammer August 5th 2008

Q: IT MUST HAVE REALLY SUCKED TO SEE MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE HEADLINING DOWNLOAD LAST YEAR WHEN YOU PLAYED ONLY FOURTH TO LINKIN PARK.
by ANDREW CARRINGTON, VIA EMAIL
...
Robb: "And we stomped Linkin Park into oblivion. I mean they need those big pop headliners, obviously, that's why they're able to pull so many different things in. There's nothing like Download in America, nothing that diverse. In America everything's gotta be the same, it's bands like Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and bands like that."
Hammer: Is there a place for bands like Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance then?
Robb: "Yes. Under my fucking foot!"

What I've Done and Shadow of the Day Officially Platinum
By: Sid on Wed Aug 06, 2008 7:46 pm

Alright. Just checked the RIAA website for LP singles. What I've Done and Shadow of the Day are officially Platinum singles now.

Bleed It Out and Shadow of the Day were certified Gold, and What I've Done was certified Platinum on 22 February, 2008.

Recently, on 11 June, 2008, Shadow of the Day was certified Platinum.

Apart from that, Numb/Encore was certified Gold on 21 February, 2005.

It's interesting to note that none of their previous singles, either from Hybrid Theory or Meteora, even reached a Gold status. Both these records are said to be "more rock" and more "Linkin Park like" than Minutes to Midnight. Most people described MTM as a more "poppy" record. More on the "pop" than on the "rock".
