я всегда тащусь от строчек, которые поет Чез в High Voltage - просто очень проникновенно звучит голос
а здесь, в первой части, Чез поет фактически а капелла - это что-то невероятное!

Edgefest review

July 13, 2008
Jam Showbiz

TORONTO - After taking a hiatus in 2007, Edgefest returned this year with the hope of bringing back some bite to the annual day-long event.

And with a new venue in Downsview Park and a combination of Linkin Park and a reunited Stone Temple Pilots, there was reason to believe that there would be a bit of an edge to the proceedings.

However, both bands at times seemed a bit dull, resulting in a show that sometimes figuratively and literally rained on the rather large crowd's parade.

Having stopped in town last year during its Projekt Revolution tour, Linkin Park began its set in a very timid fashion, far removed from the blood-curdling yelps of vocalist Chester Bennington and angst-fuelled, rap-rock brawn. Opening with a lightweight rendition of Breaking The Habit featuring just Bennington and Mike Shinoda on keyboards, the band forged on with Pushing Me Away that once again had the crowd wondering if the other members showed up.

Fortunately they appeared to finally break out of the malaise with What I've Done as a large banner with their name emerged behind them as Bennington worked the stage when not letting the crowd take the lead vocals.

"Thank you!" Bennington said prior to the militaristic, rat-a-tat-tat drumming which drove No More Sorrow along quite well with fans near the front energized. The momentum continued thanks to Lying From You and Somewhere I Belong but the latter felt just a bit like they were going through the motions.

Soon afterwards Shinoda dedicated Points Of Authority to those in the pit before once again slowing the show down with Leaving Out All The Rest and the uplifting pop nugget Shadow Of The Day which kicked off the homestretch featuring Crawling and In The End.

Probably the biggest problem Linkin Park had was trying to fit everything in with a hard curfew looming after Stone Temple Pilots took the stage 30 minutes late. Led by Scott Weiland, the reunited quartet almost upstaged the headliners with a hits-drenched set.

The ever-controversial Weiland, having parted company with Velvet Revolver on less than amicable terms earlier this year, sounded quite raspy on Big Empty and Wicked Garden and hinted that Bennington was welcome to come on stage and sing. Dressed in a dapper suit and being bare-chested a few songs later, Weiland fared better on the mid-tempo Lady Picture Show and the still stellar Vasoline.

Tossing in quick snippets of David Bowie's TVC 15, Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side and Queen's We Will Rock You, Weiland called Stone Temple Pilots "the first band that invented the sonic journey" prior to Sour Girl. He also teased the audience by hinting they were writing new material and had a "new song" called Plush, the group's breakthrough hit from 1992's Core debut.

Other memorable moments from the band's slot included the strong Interstate Love Song, Sex Type Thing and the encore Dead And Bloated before Weiland left the stage, probably to leave sarcastic phone messages on Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum's answering machine.

Earlier in the day, Sam Roberts wove his own Can-rock magic with Brother Down, Chemical City and the single Them Kids over roughly 45 minutes. And dance-rock band The Bravery braved the huge downpour to make the most of the moment with This Is Not The End and Every Word Is A Knife In My Ear.

- 'Petrified' was over 'Points Of Authority'. 'There They Go' was over the outro.
- 'Breaking The Habit' had the piano intro.
- 'Hands Held High' was done over the 'What I've Done' instrumental, and then the band launched into the full version of 'What I've Done'.
- A Canadian flag was put on Mike's keyboard before 'Leave Out All The Rest'.
- Halfway through 'A Place For My Head', the lights went out accidentally. The band played the rest of the song in darkness, and followed with 'One Step Closer' with them still off.
- The encore break was after 'Bleed It Out'.

Also, here's why Linkin Park was late last night (one of the reasons). They went on late because Stone Temple Pilots ran over, but check this out. This is from a blog.
"And of course the night ended with Linkin Park. That part of the show almost never happened. As of 8:00 the band was on a runway trying to get through customs. They were even trying to secure a private jet or helicopter to get to the venue. That’s rock star."

Phoenix said at 8:30 at the M&G that "Mike just got in".

Time for the next show's preshow writeup! Here we go.

On Wednesday, July 16th, Linkin Park will play in Mansfield, Massachusetts (located near Boston) at the Tweeter Center For The Performing Arts. This will be the first show of Projekt Revolution 2008, which is possibly the last tour of the band in support of 'Minutes To Midnight'. While it is rumored that they might tour in South America in the fall, nothing is confirmed yet. The tour consists of 24 dates, with the band starting in the Northeast and working its way down to the South, out West, back across the plains and down to Texas. Projekt Revolution runs from July 16th to August 24th, and is noticeably shorter than the tour last year. Linkin Park will also be performing two headlining, non-Projekt Revolution, dates on August 6th in Albuquerque, New Mexico and on August 13th in Bonner Springs, Kansas. This is essentially considered the make-up show for Albuquerque since the band canceled its appearance there earlier this year on the North American Winter Tour due to Chester being sick. It is the first time that they have played in Kansas in a number of years.

Linkin Park, after taking a three month break following their North American Winter Tour, headed to Europe and played a 16 shows, ranging from headlining dates to festival appearances. Unfortunately, two shows were canceled due to Brad having an ear infection, but hopefully the band will make those up in the future. Highlights included three interesting new setlists, as well as the arrival of Projekt Revolution to Europe. Mike opened his new art show, Glorious Excess: Born in Los Angeles at the Japanese-American National Museum several days ago. Right after that, Linkin Park departed for Canada to play two shows in Canada - one in Toronto at Edgefest and one the next day in Quebec City at the Festival of Quebec.

Supporting the band on this tour will be Chris Cornell, The Bravery, Busta Rhymes, Ashes Divide, and Street Drum Corps on the Main Stage, while Atreyu, Hawthorne Heights, 10 Years, and Armor For Sleep will be on the Revolution Stage.

Digital Souvenir Packages (DSPs for short) have been sold for every single date, and should be uploaded several weeks after the show. Unfortunately, Sparkart turned the live show downloads over to another company, Basecamp, who have done quite a bad job in providing the shows on time like Sparkart used to solely do by themselves. Even Milton Keynes, which happened last month, has not been uploaded yet. Regardless, you can always check LPLive for show downloads, as we will have every show from the tour available here. Live audio was also sold for Canada, so get ready for that too.

Setlist-wise, it is unknown what the band will play on Projekt Revolution. They have three setlists that they have been doing since the beginning of the European Tour titled Setlist X (One Step Closer/Faint), Setlist Y (What I've Done/One Step Closer), and Setlist Z (No More Sorrow/One Step Closer). Since the band played their last show in Canada with Setlist Z, it can be guessed at that they will play some sort of variant of Setlist X. Highlights of the new setlists include new intros to One Step Closer and Lying From You, and the return of Pushing Me Away album version, Cure For The Itch, and Reading My Eyes. This is what we've been waiting for all year - Projekt Revolution. Will Linkin Park switch it up and play new setlists? We'd like to hear what you think. Be sure to check LPLive all tour long for all the setlist information that we can possibly give you. Unfortunately, we don't have someone as good as ManBearPig attending the first three shows, so it will be difficult in getting the show information. If you go to the shows, please help us out! Now, with that said, these are the LPLive predictions for Projekt Revolution:
- The tour will feature 3 setlists, and will be some form of the 3 used on the European Tour (not with 'Breaking The Habit' opening Setlist Y). Slight changes will occur - possibly with intros or something of the sort. Two encores will be played.
- Older songs being brought back are not THAT likely. 'Reading My Eyes' will stay. It is possible that, if we have deciphered the picture of Setlist Y from the secret show correctly, that Linkin Park will stick 'QWERTY' in Setlist Y between 'Somewhere I Belong' and 'Points Of Authority'. Maybe they will stick one more song in the other two setlists, but it's really hard to tell at this point.
- The debut of 'No Roads Left' will happen at some point, due to Mike's periodic referencing to it over time. He's said on his blog that he'd like to do it live at some point, and he said at the Art Show that "it was a secret" if it was going to be played. It most likely will be included on a setlist but only played at about 4 or 5 shows, just like 'QWERTY' was on Projekt Revolution last year.
- Busta Rhymes will join Linkin Park for 'We Made It' during one of the encores. It is easier to bring Busta, his keyboardist, and his backup vocalist out during the LP set than it is to haul Brad, Phoenix, and Rob's equipment over during Busta's setlist just to do one song.
- Chester will join Chris Cornell for a song or two, possibly either 'Fell On Black Days' or 'Hunger Strike'.
- Street Drum Corps will join the band for the following songs: 'Hands Held High', 'No More Sorrow', and 'Bleed It Out'. It is unknown what they will do regarding the Linkin Park intro.

i know the odds of this actually happening are next to none, but i think it would be amazing to have the three best intros they have used in the past for the shows:

Don't Stay
No More Sorrow
